Wellingborough Station is located on the Midland Mainline
The station consists of three operational platforms with a disused 4th platform on the Eastern side of the railway. The Down Fast and Up Fast serve Platforms 1 and 2 respectively. The Up and Down Slow line is a bidirectional line which serves Platform 3 which is significantly shorter than the other platforms.

The station is located on the edge of an existing residential area; therefore the team implemented a clear communications plan, with all noisy activities risk assessed and the risks mitigated to minimise the nuisance to residents and local business.
The electrification of the route was undertaken by SPL as part of the L2C Electrification Project.
All works within the station curtilage were subjected to listed building consent; the station buildings, platform canopies; platform 1, 2, 3, and the Goods Shed to the South of the main station building are Grade II listed. All works within the station curtilage required listed building consents prior to being undertaken.
