Emergency First Aid

Duration – 1 day This Emergency First Aid course has been specifically designed to help businesses and individuals learn basic first aid skills so that they have the confidence to act in a potentially life-threatening situation. The course uses high quality videos, assessor instruction and written guidance to help you recognise emergency situations, treat minor conditions and reactions and ensure appropriate action is taken at the time of an incident. The training is accredited and valid for 3 years. Candidates will receive both a certificate and also an ID card, suitable to carry about their person Introduction and Primary Assessment Here we look at the first aid health and safety regulations, outlines what should be included in a first aid box and provides high quality video overviews of the primary assessment steps, ‘DRAB’, to be undertaken in cases of emergency. • The aim of first aid • Health and safety regulations • Your first aid box • The primary assessment • Danger • Airway • Response • Breathing Resuscitation (CPR) Using video alongside written guidance, this module explains how to administer CPR to adult casualties and outlines the use and necessity of defibrillators. The module also looks at what to consider if you have an unconscious casualty. • Administering CPR • Stopping CPR • CPR for children and infants • Defibrillators • Things to consider • Unconscious casualties Secondary Areas Here we look at, learn and carry out practical training and assessment on how to put a casualty into the recovery position. We look at how to identify and treat choking, wounds and shock. • Secondary areas • The recovery position • Choking • Wounds and bleeding We focus on the best practice for dealing with various injuries, including burns, fractures and spinal injuries, outlining how you should respond to each situation. Burns • Eye injuries • Head injuries • Fractures • Dislocations • Spinal injuries • Amputation The course also covers the best practice in responding to and treating various secondary conditions, such as asthma, allergies and diabetes. The module also looks at the symptoms and treatment of epilepsy, heart attacks and strokes. • Asthma • Allergic reactions • Nose bleeds • Diabetes • Epilepsy • Heart attacks • We also look further at some secondary conditions, including their symptoms and treatment, such as fainting, sprains, poisoning and drowning. The module also explains the importance of record keeping for businesses. • Hyperventilation • Fainting • Sprains and strains • Poisoning • Drowning • Record keeping We update these courses in line with current legislation and as such, there is now an additional module to cover catastrophic bleeding and the use of tourniquets Aims of the Training By the end of this course, learners will have the appropriate knowledge to know how to: • Understand first aid regulations. • Do a primary assessment on a casualty. • Administer CPR to a casualty. • Put casualties in the recovery position. • Deal with and respond to choking, wounds, bleeding and shock. • Deal with and respond to burns, eye and head injuries, fractures and dislocations. • Care for people suffering from asthma, allergic reactions, nose bleeds, diabetes, epilepsy, heart attacks and strokes. • Deal with and respond to hyperventilation, fainting, sprains and strains, poisoning and drowning. Asbestos Awareness

This course, which complies with HSE requirements, is a form of training suitable for all employees whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos [Regulation 10 - control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006] This course also helps to increase awareness of asbestos within the working environment. Relevant for workers who have no intention of removing asbestos (Category A) but work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000 where asbestos could be present

Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme The CITB two-day course is intended for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisors responsibilities. It provides Supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. First Aid at Work

This course is suitable for people aged 16+ who work in high hazard environments such as construction, manufacturing or agriculture. It is also ideal for organisations whose needs assessment identifies a requirement for additional first aid training (e.g. due to having employees with a disability or medical condition). It gives learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies they could encounter in the workplace. Our first aid at work course covers the content specified in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It gives learners the first aid skills to help someone who: is unresponsive and breathing is unresponsive and not breathing (including the use of an automated external defibrillator/AED) is choking is bleeding is suffering from shock is burnt feels faint has been poisoned has a head injury has hypothermia or heat exhaustion is having a medical emergency: seizure heart attack* angina attack stroke asthma attack severe allergic reaction diabetic emergency has an injury to a bone muscle or joint (including spinal injuries). The course also includes information on: dealing with an emergency: assessing a casualty monitoring a casualty where to get help electrical incidents accident recording and reporting control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH). Each learner receives a training pack including a host of resources to help them practice the skills covered. The pack includes a course companion workbook, first aid manual, bandages and more.
