Andover Station

Description: Building Construction Works

The works:

The work comprised of the construction of a new ticket office which was located to the rear of the existing ticket office and the construction of a larger booking hall.

The work included structural alterations, new ticket windows and counters together with a new DDA ticket window, new ceilings, new flooring, new WC, tea point and re-decoration throughout.

Portsmouth And Southsea Station

Location: Portsmouth

Description: Station Refurbishment Works

The works:

The works comprised of the construction of a new staff mess room within the existing office, stripping out the existing staff mess room and constructing a new ticket office within this area which included new ticket windows and cabinets. Once the new ticket office was commissioned the old ticket office was then stripped out including the old ticket windows in preparation for a new retail unit, a planter was removed from the station concourse in front of the new ticket windows and new terrazzo tiles were made and laid to match the existing concourse flooring.

Eastleigh Station

Location: Eastleigh

Description: Refurbishment Works

The works:

The works comprised of the refurbishment of the existing male and female toilets which involved a full strip out and renewal of all plumbing and electrical supplies, installation of new floor and wall tiles, new toilet cubicles and new suspended ceiling. We also refurbished the existing disabled toilet which also involved a full strip out including the old disabled toilet and cleaners cupboard, the reconfiguration of the disabled toilet and cleaners store including partition walls, new electrical supplies and plumbing supplies, new floor and wall tiling, installation of a new doc M pack, new entrance door, new suspended ceiling and decoration.

We installed new ticket office windows, removed the central brick column and the two existing ticket windows, we installed one new ticket window and new counters, decoration and wall tiling to the booking hall side.

Lastly we installed a new curtain walling and refurbished the tenancy area including associated electrical works and the full strip out of the existing curtain walling, floor coverings and suspended ceiling, the new installation included new curtain walling, suspended ceiling, electrical works, vinyl flooring and decoration.

ELSTREE & BOREHAMWOOD STATIONS

Location: Elstree & Borehamwood Stations

Description: Remodelling of Station Forecourt

The works:

We carried out Civil Engineering works in connection with the remodelling of the station forecourt including demolition, earthworks, drainage, paving and street furniture to improve the passenger interchange.  The pavement in front of the station is a Hollywood inspired walk of fame with famous actors names being included such as Sean Connery and Harrison Ford set in stone stars.  The names have been added as part of the first impressions project by the Elstree Screen Heritage Society.

West Hampstead Station

Location: West Hampstead Station

Description: Platform Extension to Platform 1

The works:

The contract works included for 10 metres deep piled foundations which imposed no ground load to the existing Thames water sewer.  The platform was designed to withstand direct impact due to incorporating support columns for Travis Perkins located above.  Insitu concrete cross walls spanned the Thames sewer with Hollow Core planks forming the front of the platform.  The platform was extended by 69 metres.

West Hampstead Station

Description: Platform Extensions

The works:

The works involved the installation of platform extensions to Platforms 2, 3 and 4.  Due to the location of an existing Thames Water Sewer part of Platform 4 construction had to be bridged.  These extensions are to facilitate 12 car trains.  The platform extensions were constructed from traditional riser wall and plank construction and the finishes included for the supply and lay of traditional coping stones and tactile paviors to the front of the platform with brick on edge to the rear of the platform.

St Albans Station

Description: Platform Extensions

The works:

The works involved new platform extensions to all platforms.  These were constructed by excavating footings and constructing cross walls with hollow plank placed on top to form the main platform base.  These extensions are to facilitate 12 car trains.  The platform finishes included for the supply and lay of traditional coping stones and tactile paviors to the front of the platform with brick on edge to the rear of the platform.

Stamford Hill Embankment

Location: Stamford Hill to Seven Sisters Railway Line

Description: Embankment Stabilisation Works

The works:

The works involved the stabilisation of an existing embankment – the worksite was 270m long, truncated at the southern boundary by St Ann’s Road Underbridge and to the north by the Tottenham & Hampstead line rail Underbridge.  The embankment is up to 5m high and consists of re-worked London clay which needed to be stabilised.  The works included for the removal of the existing embankment vegetation and topsoil.  Approximately 534 Ishbeck 40/20 soil nails were installed up to a maximum length of 14m over the area of the embankment.  The embankment was then dressed with rabbit/badger netting.  A new cess path was constructed and supported by a piled retaining wall which consisted of Groudamat piles up to a depth of 4.0m at approximately 1.2m spacings along the length of the cess.

Gerrards Cross Railway Station

Description: Painting Works

The works:

During green zone protection (T3 and T2H), we carried out pressure washing works to the platform canopy.  We also carried out preparation and painting works to all previously decorated surfaces of the  canopy including supporting structure, fascias, gable panels and roof soffit.

Cleaning was carried out to both sides of canopy glazing.  Cleaning of all rainwater goods including valley gutter and ensure free flowing was also undertaken.

We replaced both external down pipes located within the 6 ft Canopy.

Greenhithe Station

Location: Greenhithe Station

Description: Refurbishment Works

The works:

The works involved refurbishment to the Down and Up Platforms.  For the Down Platform the works included the clearing of vegetation, renovation of existing building, removal of the canopy, installation of new palisade fencing, reduction in the height of the wall around subway, the laying of new edgings, resurfacing of the platform.

The works for the Up Platform included the installation of acoustic fencing and new palisade fencing.  We also laid new edgings and installed new tactile behind copers, resurfaced the platform and refurbished the Annex Building.

Clapham Junction

Description: Gauge Clearance Works

The works:

The works involved the provision of structural supports to the front face of the platform beneath the existing coping stone so that  the existing coping stone can be set forward to reduce the stepping distances.  Some coper heights had to be lowered.  We also installed the tactile paving stones along the platform and excavated and resurfaced the platform.

Chafford Hundred Station

Location: CHAFFORD HUNDRED STATION

Description: STATION REFURBISHMENT

The works:

The works involved minor demolition of some elements of the Station buildings to enable improvement works to take place. Construction of new pedestrian ramps along with associated stairs (as per above photos), retaining walls and railings. The works also involved the relocation of passenger gates within the station building plus the installation of an additional gate. New doors and windows were also constructed and floor and wall finishes both external and internal were replaced. Finally the existing platform shelter was extended.

Dormans Station

Location: DORMANS STATION, LINGFIELD

Description: SOUTH CENTRAL GAUGING WORKS

The works:

The work involved the removal of brick copers and corbelled out brickwork, to rebuild the previously removed platform face and lower the copers. We also had to supply and place tactile paving along the full length of the platform, regrade the platform to meet the required falls and supply and install drainage.
We resurfaced the platform with 60mm base and wearing course.

Hackney Wick Station

Description: ACCESS RAMP

The works:

The work was done direct for Network Rail to install a disabled access ramp to the rear of the Up Platform into the station, the structure sits on a screwed pile foundation with a steel sub structure erected onto the piles, the ramp was then constructed using metal frame work with a paving slab infill.

Hampden Park Station

Location: HAMPDEN PARK STATION, EAST SUSSEX

Description: HAMPDEN PARK DOWN PLATFORM RECONSTRUCTION

The works:

Reconstruction of the down platform involving the replacement of the existing bull nose brick copers.

The raising of the platform riser throughout it’s length by an average of two courses using brick/concrete blocks.

Installation of offset stud buff coloured tactile paviors.

The resurfacing of the platform ensuring the correct cross falls with coated macadam dense heavy duty and high modular binder course aggregate.

Installation of heavy-duty drainage channels with boltless locking grates.

Southend East Station

Description: REFURBISHMENT WORKS

The works:

The works involved the renovation of existing toilets and waiting room on platform 1. The provision of new access from Ambleside Avenue to Platform 1 including new access footpath, fencing and external lighting as per the above photos. The works also incorporated asbestos removal, demolition of existing shed, works to existing boundary walls, new and improved signage and revised CCTV installation.

Wye & Chilham Stations

Location: WYE & CHILHAM STATIONS, KENT

Description: GAUGE CLEARANCE WORKS

The works:

Gauge Clearance Works to Station platforms at Wye and Chilham Stations to facilitate the introduction of Class 465 Networker EMU vehicles.

Works included the reduction in height of platforms at various chord points along the platform. This was achieved where possible by reducing the existing mortar bed and when this was not possible by the installation of new thin copers.

Farncombe Station

Location: FARNCOMBE UP PLATFORM

Description: PLATFORM EXTENSION WORKS

The works:

For these Platform Extension works we firstly had to undertake a Platform gauging survey to establish current platform heights and lateral offsets. We lengthened the platform to accommodate 10 car and 12 car trains. The platform was extended by 70 metres.

Wickford Embankment

Location: WICKFORD EMBANKMENT

Description: GABION WALL WORKS

The works:

Works were carried out at two sites, site one consisted of installing a gabion wall of 3 metres in height with additional slope re-grade over embankments. Site two involved the installation of a toe berm with the height of 2 metres and a slope angle of 25 degrees with re-grading work above the toe berm to form a slope angle of approximately 18 degrees. Also at Site 2 we extended the height of the head wall and wing walls by 1 metre of the overflow culvert, brick faced and re-used existing copings with an additional coping to the rear and then installed safety handrail around it.
