The works comprised of the refurbishment of an existing 1960s framed building constructed of steelwork supporting timber joists at roof and first floor and a concrete cantilevered overhang. These works are for phase one of the project, the creation of a working dental practice at ground floor level and refurbishment of the upper floor in readiness for phase two works at a future date. We stripped out the redundant items and overhauled the heating, plumbing, roof and carry out external works to make them fit for purpose. Materials used were sympathetic with the property and all finishes were to a high quality. We managed to give savings to the client on some areas of design where we were able to recommend changes.

The works involved excavation of trial pits to establish form and geometry of foundations and trial holes to verify the position of Statutory Authorities plant. We had to demolish the end garages at both eastern and western ends of the site. We broke out hard material on line of steel sheets piles and excavated the pile trench. Installed sheet piles backfilling behind and reinstated the sheet pile installation trench. We constructed the capping beam and installed the pedestrian parapet. The linear drainage channel and finishings were then reinstated. Topsoil and planting was carried out and the garages were then reconstructed replacing those that were demolished.

The site comprised of open agricultural land to the north of the main parking facility serving the hospital and the project was to provide a new access road to facilitate the development of the area with additional medical services, together with alterations to the existing car parking facility and the provision of new infrastructure. This was a conventional construction using tarmacadam materials, consisting of ground investigations, site clearance, earthworks, drainage, carriageway works with an stone mastic asphalt surface finish, road signs and markings, miscellaneous fencing and statutory undertakers works. Specification for this development is using the highway works.

We extended Platform 1 servicing the up line, constructing it predominantly using cross wall and plank. For the first 7 metres of the platform extension at the location of the existing ramp, we constructed it using front and rear riser walls with infill between to allow the existing signalling and telecoms services within the ramp to be unaffected by our works. Platform 2 servicing the down line, the extension was constructed using front and rear riser walls with infill between. Drainage over the extended length of platform 1 consisted of falling surface water to the rear of the platform allowing it to fall into a trench soakaway provided along the rear of the extension. Platform 2 drainage consisted of an aco drain provided to the rear of the platform discharging into a soakaway located in the down cess beyond the London end of the platform extension.
