Environmental Policy

THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ISO 14001

Walker Construction (UK) Ltd recognises the importance of environmental management and protection and will comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and all other environmental regulations, legislation and approved codes of practice relating to the processes and activities of the Company.

 

It is Walker Construction (UK) Ltd’s policy to co-operate with and maintain good relations with all regulatory authorities and bodies.

 

This policy will be reviewed annually, when circumstances indicate a change is needed or when legislation is introduced that necessitates change. The implementation of this policy is the responsibility of the Managing Director, assisted by the Environmental Manager, Environmental Officer and other members of his management team.

 

It is the aim of this policy to protect the environment with increased emphasis on activities and locations that are environmentally significant.  To achieve this the company will strive for continual improvement in environmental performance, with the aim to, wherever possible:-

 

  • Assess the environmental effects of the Company’s activities including sites.

 

  • Minimise the amount of waste produced and manage waste streams.

 

  • Increase the use of recycled and recyclable materials.

 

  • Reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

 

  • Prevent the pollution of water, land or air.

 

  • Minimise noise pollution created by our operations.

 

  • Minimise the risk of harm to employees, members of the public and the environment from processes and activities associated with the Company.

 

  • Minimise the environmental impact for the life cycle including disposal of plant, equipment and other physical assets under our control.

 

  • Operate a Management System compliant with ISO 14001: 2004.

 

Specific objectives and targets are set and monitored during Management Review Meetings.  These are made known to all employees, who are encouraged to promote environmental awareness and strive for continual improvement. We also encourage our clients, suppliers and subcontractors to support us in achieving the successful implementation of this policy.

 

Work carried out on behalf of Network Rail on their infrastructure will be in accordance with their Group and Company Standards.
