Value: £1.9 Million
Duration: 32 Weeks
The works involved the installation of S278 highways works along with on-site groundworks to facilitate a new Tesco store including the construction of a new 600 metre access road and the reconfiguration of existing gyratory system,
Associated works: Storm/Foul drainage, earthworks, demolition, landscaping, kerbs, footways, modular / concrete paved areas, installation of thermoplastic road marking along with base, binder and surface course installation which involved cold milling. The installation of new fencing, pedestrian guardrails, road signage, street lighting including LV connections and disconnections, street furniture, traffic/pedestrian management and traffic signal installation.
We constructed a gable end wall upon demolition of an existing property including the application of coloured render. We also had to manage the utilities plant for major diversion to minor diversion works.
Work constraints within a town centre location and central hub with over 9 million vehicle movements through Traffic Management along with 2 million pedestrian movements largely due to Sunderland FC being located within 1000 metres from the works.
Benefits Realised / Lessons Learnt
The approved specification was not able to be changed due to the very high design specification / highway design constraints - so we were unable to offer additional cost savings
