Project;
The works involved the installation of S278 highways works along with on-site groundworks to facilitate a new Tesco store including the construction of a new 1500 metre access road and multiple car parks.

Associated works:
Storm/Foul drainage, earthworks, soil nailing, demolition, landscaping, kerbs, footways, modular / concrete paved areas, installation of thermoplastic road marking and road studs, anti-skid surfacing along with base, binder and surface course installation which involved cold milling.

The works also involved the installation of new fencing, pedestrian guardrails, road signage, street lighting including LV connections and disconnections, street furniture, traffic/pedestrian management and traffic signal installation.

Challenges
Work constraints within a town centre location and central hub with over 12 million vehicle movements through Traffic Management along with 64,000 pedestrian movements. Throughout the project Traffic management and pedestrian phase plans were produced and implemented keeping the pedestrians safe and the traffic free flowing.

The complete reconfiguration of the existing road network within the town centre whilst maintaining the existing vehicle flows. Closing an existing road (Bruce Street) and re-routing on to the new road system.

Managing the project without our usual sub-contractor network and Walker staff and utilising staff via labour agency.
